Choosing a Crystal Ball
Crystals balls are used for the ancient practice called scrying, where you move beyond the logical mind to gain insight into past, present or future events. A crystal ball is precisely what is sounds like, a sphere formed from crystal. A crystal ball comes in a range of colours, sizes, and type of crystals(not glass!). You should choose a crystal ball that you feel drawn to, because you will be spending a lot of time with it. The size is unimportant, it is more important that the ball feels comfortable in your hand and it is able to keep your attention. To learn to scry with a crystal ball takes time and patience.
What is scrying?
Scrying is the conventional practice of divination that involves staring into a reflective object object, such as a crystal ball, magic mirror,or even a bowl of water. The act of gazing into a shiny, reflective surface is a form of meditation or self-hypnosis.........very similar to day dreaming. It is a way of moving beyond the rational mind to gain knowledge that normally would not be available to you.
How to scry with a crystal ball
Scrying relies on focusing your eyes, fixing your gaze, and passing your normal vision to allow pictures or symbols to form. The crystal ball should be placed (or held) against a background that won't distract you, in a dimly lit room. Place a lit candle behind the crystal ball, make yourself comfortable and quieten your mind with a few minutes of deep breathing. Allow your mind to move beyond the physical form of the ball. In other words, when staring into the sphere, avoid using a hard, focused stare. Keep your eyes relaxed(don't strain), and gaze beyond the surface to the inside center of the ball. After a lot of practice, you may be aware of a mist forming around the sphere, or a deep darkness within the ball. With more practice, you may have a feeling of spiralling, floating or feel light headed. The next stage in your development you may see colours or light amidst the darkness. Eventually images should appear, and with even more practice you may even be able to answer the questions you have related to the past, present, future.
Never allow yourself to become overly tired. Limit your scrying session to between 20 to 30 minutes to avoid headaches, or eyes burning. When you are learning to scry, you may notice that the area near your third eye will feel like it is burning or aching. This means that your third eye is actually beginning to work, don't let it distract you.
Once you have finished your scrying session, sit back and think about what transpired. While it is still fresh in your mind, write down what you saw, felt, experienced, for future reference. Don't be worried if you do not fully understand straight away what transpired, it will eventually all come together.
For the average person, scrying takes many hours of practice and patience before they see results, that is why there are not many practicing this ancient art today. In general, scrying seems to work best for people that are more visually inclined.
Care of your crystal ball
Traditionally, crystal balls when not in use are wrapped in a velvet cloth to protect it from other energies. I personally keep mine on show, I think they are too beautiful to be kept away. When I want to do some scrying with my crystal ball that is when I clear it of any energies. I clear and cleanse mine by using a smudge stick of sage or incense smoke. Some people cleanse their crystal ball under clear running water or spring water to which they add herbs or flower essences. It is really comes down what feels right to you.
