Pendulum Dowsing

What is a Pendulum?

A pendulum is an object which is dangled from a stable point that moves in reaction to a natural force. Using a pendulum is a form of kinesiology, that responds to your own spirit, energies, thoughts, higher self, spirit guides and your Collective Unconscious. Pendulums come in all shapes, sizes and materials such as crystals, brass, glass, plastic, and wood. It should be symmetrically balanced and lightweight, the heavier pendulums tend to be slower to move and turn whilst the lighter ones tend to be unstable and can even move from draughts.

What is Dowsing?

The practice of using a pendulum is an ancient art called dowsing(traditionally twigs or copper rods were used to find water). For centuries midwives have dangled a wedding ring from a piece of string over a pregnant belly to determine the sex of a child. Dowsing works on the same basis as psychometry, the ability to focus your mind and tune into subtle vibrations. This form of divination has been called "the truth teller" due to its accuracy.

In modern times, dowsing has been used by big business and even the military to locate such things as water, oil, minerals, lost objects, and even tunnel systems. It has also been used in the medical profession to detect and pinpoint a site of disease.

How do I use a Pendulum?

The beauty of using a pendulum for divination is that anyone can do it, the most difficult thing to learn is how to the word the question you want to ask. A pendulum can only answer, "yes" and "no"(with practise "don't know") questions.

When you are starting out, keep your dowsing sessions to approximately 30 mins, the reason being that arm strain or tiredness could give you an incorrect reading or false answers.

There a couple of methods that you can use to divine with the pendulum.

The first method is hold the chain or string about 7-10 centimetres (3-4 inches) above the pendulum. Substantiate "yes" and "no" by asking a question you know the answer is yes, and then ask a question in which you know the answer is no. Swing the pendulum a few times in the direction for "yes", telling yourself "This is yes", then do the same for no. If the pendulum wobbles then the answer is probably "unsure or maybe".

The second method is to write out "yes" and "no" on two small, separate pieces of paper and place them a short distance apart on a flat surface. Hold the string or chain in the same way that is described in the first method, hold it with the pendulum equally between the two words, hovering just a few centimetres above them. When you have cleared your mind of distracting thoughts then ask your question, make sure that you phrase the question you want answered with a "yes" or "no".

I would like to make a note that when it comes to answers about your future, that your future is not always set in stone and dowsing can be open to influence. The answer you receive may be the answer that you are wishing to hear, rather that what will happen, so it may be an idea to ask someone to hold the dowse on your behalf.

Pendulum dowsing certainly is a great place to start on your psychic path, excellent for beginners and experts alike delving into divination.
